Day 3 at Delft (18 Oct 07)

The place is really different from Singapore/Malaysia, both in terms of people, culture, climate and even animals. U can even find families of geese swimming in the canals here. See how huge they are!

I took lunch at IHE's canteen. It carries a wide selection of food, ranging from bread, sandwiches, salad, fruits, fish & chips, etc. I chose their Asian selection - yellow rice with chicken, and added a piece of bacon just for trying. Quite glad that the food is to my likeing :)

After lunch, I went for a walk around town. There's a church (Old Church) that is leaning badly .. 2m from the vertical! U probably can feel it from the photo. Just went around exploring the place & snapping photos along the way.

Oh, today is Thu & there is "pasar malam"! It's a makeshift market selling various types of things from food (cheese, meat, herrings, fries, snacks, etc), clothes, household appliances, etc. Quite fun to walk thru them and see the lifestyle of locals. It's rather small and it only takes 30min to walk thru it.



In the afternoon, IHE arranged for a "orientation" for us - a guided tour by seniors & a boat ride in the canal. The tour is very informative, as the senior takes all sorts of questions from us, from where to go on weekends to transport discounts to museum discount cards...

After this "orientation", we're ushered back to IHE for the "Opening of Year" Ceremony by IHE. After that it's get together time for some drinks, food, beer and Holland unique food - herrings! It is taken with some garlic and is to be eaten raw! It taste just like sashimi .. very good!
